Distraction: the divided attention of an individual (Mary) from the chosen object (writing) of attention onto the source of distraction.

Today was certainly one of those days…

I should blame it on the early sunrise, which presented me with a dragon streaking across the sky. This is how my day started and from this point, I was gone.

There is another cause for the myriad of distractions — the spring-like weather. As most of you know, I’m a autumn/winter gal. However, in California, we are breaking records with high temps.

Today is 70!

I saw buds on trees where the autumn leaves have yet to leave the branches. Birds are playing in the birdbath, and hummingbirds dart by my window every hour.

They’re confused and I’m confused.

My lemons are flourishing — even with lows in the 30’s.

Trust me, I’m not complaining.

I’m a disciplined person, but the past few days have me planning out my garden. I should not be doing any of this until March, not January. But the outside beckons, luring me to play.

Today was one of those days where I ditched the writing, if only for a few hours, and took a very long walk…

Nature is my distraction. What’s yours?

I,too, played hookie yesterday. I was supposed to be cleaning the den..(everything that I have no idea what to do with seems to be put in there). But the call of a long walk ending at my local Starbucks got to me and off I went.
Whilst standing waiting for my drink…my cell phone jangled and my daughter was calling me to say she was meeting me there. So,we two, sat outside basking in this unusual warm day for January in this part of California. Could there be a sweeter distraction. Thank you, Lori.

Mary, I love your dragon and can see why it was hard to focus with all that going on around you. Temps here have been cold. No snow yet. Plenty in the mountains but it hasn’t made it to us yet, sadly.

    • Oh Leah, I miss winter. The country, actually world, seems to be in a flux with the weather pattern. Far too much in one place, and not enough in another…

Sadly, we’re going into a drought. The past year has been the worse ever. I know I shouldn’t complain (currently it’s 68), but even the air quality is bad.

Okay! Enough of the rant. At least I got to see my dragon and play. 🙂

I think your dragon knew you needed some ‘play’ time and that’s why he came looking for you!

I will be only to happy to send you our freezing temps – the sunshine is lovely but does not do enough to get my butt outside – LOL! Although I have to force myself to go out tomorrow for a ‘spa’ day to include perm which I really need to lift my spirits!

    • Hahaha….you made me laugh so hard, Barb. Yep, you’re right. Playtime was on the agenda. 🙂

I will swap my warm temp for your cooler one anytime. We just need to shift those high and low pressures, right?

Enjoy your spa day! Sounds wonderful, so relax and get pampered. (((HUGS)))

Luckily I am blessed with 3 little boys, they are my distraction. Although of late, life has been an even bigger distraction. But a weekend alone with them was just the balm I needed for my soul.

  5. 80’s almost every day….80’s! blech. you are sooo right. too much in parts of the u.s. and not enough in the rest.

my daffodils and tulips are coming up EVERYWHERE! i am a fall and winter person as well and i feel out of synch with the cosmos. my head is in the clouds and i sit around planning how many new roses to buy. and the cricket who has taken residence behind my washing machine mocks me every single night. “chirp. chirp.”, he says. as if to make me believe i should be outside enjoying the evening rather than wanting to be sitting inside by a roaring fire. god, i hate him. 🙂

    • Oh you had me in laughing fits, Mimi. I actually started thinking about herbs yesterday, but not a good idea if the weather Gods decide to give us a cold snap in February. One can only wish. How’s your rain dance coming along? 😉
